Nikon AIS 50 mm F1.2

Creamy Bokeh @ f1.2. Light Vignetting though but artistic Quality. Crispy Sharp @ smaller Apertures. Solid Build as expected from Japan . Highly recommended.

5,0 de 5 estrellas Wow, this is one unbelievably fast sharp bright manual lens!
UPDATE: Now that I have been shooting with this lens for two years, I can update my review to say it is still the favorite lens I own. I agree with others who say that sharpness at the widest f1.2 is less than at 1.4 & 1.8, but when you are running that wide open, artistic effects are sort of what you are looking for and so it is not a big issue. And some of the issue is user focusing errors - wide open, this is very unforgiving of focusing mistakes - the focal plane is so shallow that if you miss by the tiniest bit, you can be way off. Pro Tip: when focus matters a ton, such as with close up portraits, it can help to put the camera in live view and zoom in with the LCD screen to get a very clear view of what you are focusing on. But the main reason I wanted update my review is to add a few more photos and to talk about the wonderful warmth this lens adds color-wise. Depending on the lighting situation, this lens can impart an ever-so-slight warm yellow/pink cast to some of the shots that is just magical. It is not hugely noticeable and could easily be corrected in post, but sometimes you get the most wonderful warmth when shooting this lens. See additional pictures. Summary: as I say to my wife, this is a heart-breaking lens: you miss shots - the keeper rate is definitely lower than with a modern auto-focus lens, but when you hit a shot with this, it is a lifetime greatest hits quality shot a keeper forever. Not the lens you grab to document a fast-moving event such as a birthday party, but the lens you grab to take on a photo walk and keep your passion for photography stoked and humming!

Wow, this is a sharp, fast lens. I am using it on a DX body Nikon D5500 and it is terrific. Because it is an FX format professional lens designed to paint a bigger sensor, it has absolutely no trouble being incredibly sharp and bright all the way out to the farthest corners on the D5500, a DX format prosumer camera. The lens feels bright enough to take a picture in a black hole. And the bokeh is creamy and absolutely beautiful (see example photos which give examples of bokeh and also show the lens on the D5500 and unmounted).

But it is not a beginner lens for three reasons. First, it is not inexpensive - not crazy pricey, but not an impulse purchase either. Second, it is totally and completely manual on the modern DSLR cameras. You have to put the camera into full manual mode to even get it to take a picture and then you set the aperture by hand using the aperture ring (remember those?, but oh, my lord, is it a treat to be able to drop all the way down to f1.2!) and then you have to set the shutter speed (and ISO if desired) manually, and then of course you have to focus it manually. Thirdly, when it is opened way up, the focal plane feels like it is about 1mm deep on closer-up portraits where the subject is inside of 10 feet or so. Someone with more skill than me could calculate how deep it actually is, but suffice it to say that it is really shallow. It is possible to have a person whose face is slightly at an angle to the camera (rather than facing straight-on) have one eye in sharp focus and the other one softly out of focus with a little bokeh on the eye glint. It is that shallow. Of course the artistic possibilities there are enormous, but if you are going to use it for portraits when it is wide open, you really need to pay attention to focus.

Final point I will make is that for a very small and compact lens with a 52mm filter diameter, this is one seriously heavy little item. It is not that it is heavy, uncomfortable or unbalanced to use, so much that it feels dense. It is just beautifully made and feels totally solid, as if its volume is 49% glass, 49% metal, and 2% oil with no air gaps. The result is smooth, solid and durable feeling - I could imagine this lens working as flawlessly as new in 30 years' time if treated with care.

So, is it a great everyday lens for general purpose lens? In the hands of an experienced photographer, sure maybe if you need the fastest manual 50mm lens you can get, but in truth, a beginner might be more comfortable with one of Nikon's modern autofocus f1.4 or f1.8 G series fully automatic lens. But for bokeh monsters, advanced hobbyists, and lens lovers, I recommend it highly!

5,0 de 5 estrellas The best 50mm lens ever built period
Reseñado en Canadá el 28 de agosto de 2017
The best 50mm lens ever built period. The sharpest at f2.8 even at 1.4! After testing the canon 1.2 and even the Zeiss milvus 50mm f1.4, the Nikon 50mm 1.2 is by far the most valuable in term of performance and image quality. Very highly recommended!

5,0 de 5 estrellas OMG what a beauty!!
